every road i have taken
has led to my regret
every fight i have fought
led to my defeat

a swim in the Atlantic,
a journey in the land of lala
struggled daily trying
to quench embers of my fall

flights of fantasy, fancy
leading to delusions of grandeur
brought down from cloud cuckoo
by the thrust of a pin

all seemingly lost
groping blindly
not finding my way
out of mephitic abyss

reaching out my hand to you
holding on as to a lever
you walk with me
my pain you take away

looking back in time, so close yet so far away now

heart filled with poignant thoughts and feelings of years gone by

bones creaking now, joints bent arthritically

eyes losing strength, tried to lose the religion, never could, never will.

 

mercy, mercy me, just as if a wand was waved

all gone away now, flown the coop so to say

looking at the present now with the eyes of the past

reminded of the co-mingling of past, future and present

 

all that is now, all that will be, all that was

same old story, told in different styles, different flavours

the hour-glass never running out,

sand dripping, trickle by trickle, out-lasting, in vain trying to fill the glass
