Umar Farouk Abdul Muttalib: epitome of a coward

image

Picture from www.saharareports.com

Looking back over the past few days, one cannot help but wonder at the craziness that abounds these days. Take  Umar Farouk Abdul Muttalib for instance. This is a young man, handsome many would say, probably well-bred too, a lot of things going his way, the world at his feet so to say. Yet he decided to throw it all away on what? A whim or a desire to be recognized, acknowledged? I just can’t get my head round.

Here is some one who is a scion of one of the elite families in his country. His father, apart from being a just-retired chairman of one of Nigeria’s biggest banks, also owns his own bank! Yet reading through some of the posts he is alleged to have posted in the past on the internet, one sees a young man who has never being happy with his lot, always complaining of an emptiness he needed to fill.

I would say he epitomizes a true picture of one who has always being selfish. His actions also throws into the winds the misconception that those involved in terrorism are invariably from impoverished backgrounds, having never had things go their way. That illusion has somewhat being rubbished by the actions of this would-be terrorist. Where or upon whom can we lay the blame for his stupidity?

There are a lot of selfish young men like this today, walking about with empty hearts, dreaming of glory and the rewards in heaven, the forty or so promised virgins who would welcome them with open arms and give them the sexual delights they refused themselves in this life. Don’t get me wrong, I would not mind getting to heaven and being welcomed by same virgins, but I sure won’t blow myself up to get there!

One of the scary things about this is the fact that you could live with people like this for years and never know their mind-set. You could be married to them if you are that unfortunate. They are just like chameleons, able to blend into any setting without being detected. They go through most of their deranged life with only one goal – spreading terror, shedding as much blood as possible.

What sort of a person sits down everyday, hatching plans to kill multitudes for the reward of going to heaven to f***k virgins? A totally brainwashed, mindless and stupid individual. The question they should ask themselves at times is this, ‘What about this mullah who is giving me this indoctrination? He does not seem to have any plans to blow himself up, why me?’

Another scary thought that occurred to me as well is that of the ordinary Nigerians out there who are going to be stigmatized over this crazy person’s actions. Your neighbors are going to start giving you the once-over as much as possible now. The cops will stop you for no reason other than to check if you Nigerian and if you are in the bomb making industry.

Of course, Nigerians won’t be the first to be stigmatized in this manner. After 9/11 a lot of people got mistaken for terrorists even when they were not Arabs or Muslims. You just need to be in the habit of wearing some sort of turban and you were termed a terrorist. When a similar incident happened in the UK, a Brazilian national was trailed from his home by cops and killed simply because looked like an Arab!

Umar Farouk Abdul Muttalib, in carrying out this action, has proven what a waste of space his family actually thought he was. After all, his own father took the first step of showing us what a coward he was destined to be. This father deserves kudos anyhow, and i daresay, this indoctrination of mindless evil did not emanate from his father. Umar’s father would be looking inwards now and wondering where it all went wrong.

Above all, one is thankful that the bomb did not go off as the coward intended. Hundreds, if not thousands, of parents, wives, brothers, sisters and children would be crying tears of sorrow now. This does not mean that the authorities every where should become complacent. There has never being a more dangerous time for fundamentalists than now. They have bags of tricks off their sleeves and they will not hesitate to strike if they have the opportunity, so let us all be vigilant!

Seasons Greetings = 20 EC Credits!

image

Just would like to use this opportunity to wish every one who passes through these pages, anyone who has and who will drop by for a visit, all the best of this season and a wonderful new year up ahead!

Hopefully the worst of the recession may have passed us by, so let’s give thanks, for it could have been worse than it is now! I mean I can think of a lot of reasons why it could have being worse than it is now:

1. One could be dead (ain’t nothing worse than that, holmes!)

2. Well I could be somewhere without an internet connection. (Hmm sounds a bit selfish)

3. I could be homeless, but am not.

4. I could be hungry, but am not.

And on and on and on! I could go on, but all I got to say is, i am thankful just being alive, breathing in the sweet, fresh air of the winter mornings here.

Still here? Well if I have held your attention for so long, why don’t we have a little game. I am giving away 20 EC credits for any one who has an Entrecard account and who carries out the task below.

Why not read this, then let us know what you are thankful for? How did the recession affect you, we know it’s not over yet, but what are your thoughts about it? Thoughts of angst, despair, hope? Just leave a comment here, with a link to your blog. If you like write about it on your blog, but link to my post. I will visit your blog, drop some EC love and also send you some 20 EC Credits. You need to to notify me though by leaving a message on this post.

Happy writing then!

P.S.

I will keep this open for as long as I have credits to give out, but I might also pull it at anytime :)

Hypocritical Values

hypocrite

It sometimes amazes me the propensity we have for ascribing certain values to certain people and to others, well we just  smile and say, ‘ Oh! He/she is at it again.’ Take Tiger for instance and what is happening to him at the moment.

Endorsements are flying out of the window, right, left and center. Suddenly, Tiger is not a suitable person to represent certain interests. He befouls American/World family values. Certain interests would lose tons of money if the face on their products happens to be Tiger. Tiger is pariah.

There are other people as famous and rich as Tiger, even richer who carry dalliances worse than Tiger, but for some reason whatever they do, they end up getting forgiveness. Yes, these are the ‘untouchables’, whatever they do can be explained away, if they are caught out, they get only the odd tap on the hand and then they are allowed to carry on.

I am not saying here that whatever Tiger has done is okay or permissible, I mean, how could a man do such a thing to wife? All I am saying is that the press/public should take a step back and stop this hypocritical show that is put on every time certain celebrities are caught with their pants/bras down.

Take the uproar that welcomes the exposure of Janet Jackson’s boob sometime ago. So she decided to expose her boob or it happened accidentally, I still can’t understand the media uproar that followed. Suddenly Janet Jackson became a threat to the so-called American family values. Madonna and a lot of other female stars like Janet, have being exposing themselves for years but they were idolized and placed on a pedestal of infallibility.

Michael Vick got caught arranging dog fights or whatever and he had to go to jail! Wow! Michael Vick is just a tip of the iceberg when it comes to animal cruelty. Don’t get me wrong, animal cruelty in whatever fashion is wrong, all I am saying is, a lot more people than Michael Vick should have gone to jail. Somebody said the other time during a presidential campaign, that they enjoy the thrill of shooting moose now and then, yet they are not in jail! If you shoot moose or any other animal for sport then you should be answerable.

Michael Jackson, bless  his soul, got done in by some random (or was it habitual) crotch grabbing! The same people who spear-headed his fall from grace are now coming out to claim he was a saint, he was this, he was that. Hypocrites! All their after now is milking the inevitable cash flow that is the fallout of his death.

The Nobel Prize committee for some weird reason or the other decided that President Obama was deserving of the Nobel Peace prize. For the life of me, I cannot fathom the reason behind such a hair-brained, inane decision. What has Obama contributed to world peace? He has just approved sending of 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan. He is on a collision cause with Iran and North Korea. Morgan Tsvangirai and a lot of other people like him have done more to hustle for peace and achieving of objectives through peaceful means, were they considered for this award? Probably, but because of the hypocrisy that surrounds the award now, they were also probably overlooked.

Bill Clinton was almost done in because he was getting head in the White House. Come on, if he was getting it from the right quarters he probably wouldn’t have fallen for ‘that woman’. Unfortunately, he did fall and the hoopla that followed it all is now the stuff of legend. Should he or shouldn’t he have? Did ‘that woman’ actively pursue or give him ideas? Who knows really? Who cares?

These are funny times really, when the famous can be brought to their knees, unjustly, by some media hysteria whipped up by some crazy, hypocritical fanatics who have nothing better to do than to destroy people and their careers. The girls who have being sleeping with Tiger are probably all smiling to the banks now. they won’t tell their stories without ‘getting paid’. Sadly, they also are pawns in this sad and twisted game.

Mother-in-law XMAS gift

image

Image is by unknown.

One year, a husband decided to buy his mother-in-law a cemetery plot as a Christmas gift.

The next year, he didn't buy her a gift.

When she asked him why, he replied, "Well, you still haven't used the gift I bought you last year!"

Tiger on a leash

image

So the Tiger was caught with his pants down? So what? I mean did we think he was not human like the rest of us or did we place him on a pedestal (of hypocrisy)? really I am still trying to get my head around this fixation on celebrity that sometimes drives real issues to the background.

So the man likes to shag a prostitute or two now and then. So what? Not that I am condoning it, but come on, let’s be objective about this. If I was as loaded as Tiger is, I would probably do the same, so who am I to be casting aspersions? What gives me the right to cast aspersions?

We go about creating demi-gods out of our fellow human beings, we worship them on the screens of our TVs. We follow their every move. When times are good, we turn a blind eye to what ever they are doing. When they are steadily growing popular from our adulation, when they have more worshippers based on our adulation, we forget that they are humans and we placed them where they are.

Tiger has probably had a penchant for prostitutes all his life. He did not just get up and start going after them or them him. Who knows what else he is into? Being a fickle lot, we always express surprise when a celeb is caught in matrimonial infidelity, forgetting that somewhere in our minds we have decided to grant them a status which they cannot attain to, for after all, they are just humans.

Sometimes when I look at issues such as this particularly those concerning celebs. I cannot help but muse about those people who make a fortune out of them. The tabloids make a on of money. The mainstream news agencies make a ton of money too. The prostitutes involved in the dalliances, make a pile of money too.

Makes you wonder. Everybody starts actively searching for some dirt on any celeb. What it all boils down to is money. It is a cold, calculated move all these people make.

There are those others of course, who are in it for some different agenda or the other. There are Black groups who are simply laughing their heads off at Tiger’s misfortune, those who are saying , Good for him, the idiot!’ Why? Simply because the Tiger has refused to see himself as ‘Black.’ I don’t see anything wrong with that, I mean if he decides he not black and that he is white, so what? What is in a color anyway? The man has said that he is a ‘Calbrinasian’ which represents his mixed Caucasian, Black, Asian and Indian origin! Come on this guys has every right to claim whatever color he wants to claim!

One thing we have to remember as we continue throwing stones at the Tiger man: he is a genius, and just like every other genius, he is human, and once in a while he would forget the ‘demi-god’ status and commit what mere mortals commit. Like every other genius, he has his short-comings, but I simply cannot revel in them because there are a lot more important things to worry about, like the recession, hunger, global warming, etcetera!

All I can say at the moment is, ‘Go Tiger, don’t let hypocrisy knock you off your stride! Keep humping them blonde hoochie mamas.’ Only thing I am sad about is, Tiger is going to be remembered more for his extra-marital accomplishments than for all his great achievements in the golf course. That is the way life goes!

In the midst of plenty, yet bathing in spittle by Stani

image

The cartoon is culled from the Gaurdian Newspapers.

My title and the cartoon describes it all.

A country’s leadership having all at its disposal to make life good for its people and even themselves, yet because of attention to frivolous issues, unimportant issues, they all tend to suffer. Calls to mind the story of Aneke.

Aneke was a very wealthy man who once lived right at the banks of the River Niger. The sad reality of Aneke’s situation was that he was either too stupid or too selfish to even grasp the basic things he needed. You see, Aneke, even with all the water at his disposal, resorted to bathing with his own spittle everyday! You ask why? He thought the River would run dry if he took water from it!

It ;s almost the same with the Nigerian Leadership. Massive profits have being generated over the years from sale of crude oil, yet even the most basic things, Nigerians still lack. even the leadership is suffering.

At the time of writing, it is reported that the President of Nigeria, is currently in Saudi Arabia undergoing treatment for acute pericarditis (what is it?).Treatment Saudi Arabia? Why not get treatment in Nigeria? Well, the simple truth is that he does not believe in the efficacy of treatment in the hands of Nigerian doctors. Moreover, his government and previous government have failed woefully to deliver a sound health care system like the one he is availing of in Saudi Arabia.

What has Saudi Arabia got that Nigeria does not have? Is it oil? They both have it in abundance, the only thing lacking in the Nigerians is the ability to harness their profits to the benefit of the system. Where the Saudis have decided to use oil proceeds to make Saudi Arabia a better society and a sound and governable system, the Nigerians have squandered their oil profits. The leadership has either siphoned the proceeds into their Swiss bank accounts or they have spent the money on ‘white elephant’ projects that have not benefited their society.

As long as this mentality of acute stupidity continues, the nation as a whole will continue to suffer. In my opinion, it seems as if time is running out. Nigerians may end up wallowing forever in this vicious cycle of irresponsible leadership. The previous President’s wife even died in Germany under the scalpel of a grossly inefficient doctor. She went over for a simple ‘tummy tuck’ and ended up in a hearse!

The leaders of the nation are content to share the nations wealth amongst themselves, while the poor masses continue in their abject poverty, suffering everyday and smiling as if there are no pains, hoping and praying that God will send a savior. They fail to realize that the savior they need is really themselves.

The president is in Saudi Arabia now, getting probably first class or second class treatment because he can afford it and a question springs to mind, has the Kind of Saudi Arabia or any other head of State of any country ever being to Nigeria for treatment of any ailment? Nigeria seems to be blessed with shameless nincompoops, imbeciles who claim to be leaders and all they do is loot the national treasury. While they are busy traveling abroad for treatment, hhat about the man or the woman in the streets who cannot afford all that? What is there in store for them? More suffering? The leadership of Nigeria really needs to sit up and tackle the bull called corruption by the horns, maybe then things will start to take shape.

Sky (BSKYB)- The easiest way to depression

image

Ok. I have spent six days since my supposed 'installation' of Sky+ TV. Six agonizing days. Here's a blow by blow account:

Day 1:

Installation day. Installation man comes out from Sky, goes about drilling holes all over the place, making a big mess. then he turns to me and says, ' Bollocks! Your land line is not compatible with Sky TV!' So I say to him, 'What exactly is the problem?' He can't explain it other than saying, my land line is not compatible with Sky Multi-room package! Then he starts calling Sky and could not get through. He says to me, I will be over later in the day and complete your installation. So I waited and waited and waited, to no avail, then I started calling his number and he won't pick his phone so I knew then and there that I was in fro some rigmarole! Bummer! I eventually got my wife to call him with her phone and he picks up the phone immediately, which gives me a sneaky feeling, he has being avoiding my call! Anyway, he told my wife, he would come over and sort everything in the morning, we just needed to send him a text message.

Day 2:

Text message was sent dutifully the next day. Here is the response, 'I told you yesterday that I could not resolve this issue, you need to contact Sky to sort this out for you.' I was shocked! So my wife got back to him saying, he promised he would help and he has not responded till date! So I decided to call Sky directly. Well, I should have put my efforts to something better. I was on the phone for the better part of an hour before I got somebody to talk and then after that I spent almost two hours being passed from various departments and still my issue still did not get resolved.

Day 3:

Ok. Third day, maybe I could get third time lucky? You wish! If only horses could fly! Anyway, day 3 was no different, same old same old. Called Sky and was passed around from one person to the other, with no resolution. It seems to me, that Sky has employed a whole bunch of nincompoops, idiots, inept and inefficient individuals! I just can't believe this, I mean, what does it take to have a set of terribly stupid people like this working for somebody?

Day 4:

I tried picking up the phone to call Sky.... nah! Not today, I just couldn't bring myself to go through the agony of listening to crazy, stupid people who have no idea what to do to solve a customer's issue! Mind you, I did not mention this before, but I already paid for this installation.

Day 5:

Still no word from Sky and I am still not in the mood to talk to some brainless twits!

Day 6: (Today)

Ok. I decided to call Sky today after a two-day hiatus. I called Sky at 03:50PM (yeah, I noted the time). I got off the phone with Sky at 07:45PM - was my issue resolved? NO! God forbid, that Sky would resolve anybody's issue, I mean, it would seem as if Christmas came too early! I really don't know how to describe Sky's inefficiency anymore or the ineptitude of the brainless twits who work for Sky, they are so terrible that it seems to me as if I just woke up from a very bad dream anytime I talk to them.

Ok, imagine this. in between my talk with Sky today, in between being passed around from department to department, I had the honour of getting across to a girl in a department that was supposed to help straighten me out. So I was the one who called right, after getting disconnected from too mush passing around and stuff. So she started their normal mantra all over again - can I have your name? Your account number, blah, blah, blah? So I explained I did not have my account number  but I could get my viewing card number, so she says, 'can I have it.' I said no, I have to call my wife on my other number and get it, it would take me just a few seconds. Guess what she told me? Oh! You are gonna love this one! She said, 'Can try and not take too long? I would not like you to place me on hold for too long' WHAT? So i lost my cool and told her that her customer service skills were non-existent, I stopped short of telling her how stupid and crazy she sounded. So it is okay for me to call Sky and be made to wait on the queue for hours, but Sky and its employees cannot afford to give me a few minutes grace to get a number from my wife? What a load of crock!

I intend to catalog here, my everyday ordeal with Sky. At this point, I do not believe I will ever get this sorted, because Sky's people are just a bunch of dishonest so-and-sos. One of them told me this evening before I hung up that he will get somebody from the sales team to call me tonight at 09:00PM to resolve the issue once and for all. He took my phone number and assured me categorically that he would get this done. It is 10:10PM now, and still no call from Sky, they cannot even keep their promises! I think I will have to call them again tomorrow and go through the agony of explaining myself over and over again and being passed like a headless chicken from department to department, all because of gross inefficiencies at Sky.

Till my update tomorrow, adios!

elusive like wispy dew
slipping through tingly fingertips
doe-eyed beauty
sent from the fairies.

memories of days gone by
spent starring into pools
hypnotized by unreality
captivated held spellbound.

crazy love it was
queen of my heart
here yet not here
there everywhere anywhere.

ah! remember the times
you walked with me
remember how i held you
like a Spanish guitar strumming...

yesterday came and went
like a puff of smoke
always elusive, hard to hold on to
crazy fatal love.

I have read a few reviews about this. Some reviews were not too favorable but on the plus side, a lot of those I read were quite in favor of this new make. For me, I love cars, nice sleek cars, cars that make me feel good, comfy! This car would definitely make me feel that way.

Gold

image

Was mouthing off the other night with a friend over the current financial situation in the world and what could be done to alleviate the various crisis facing humankind - financially that is. My friend said something about  gold and how simple it is to trade in.

Quite frankly, with the current economic climate one needs to be proactive about these things, but something piqued my interest regarding this. What would it be like to buy gold coin?

One thing I do know is that the price of gold is driven by demand and supply. Gold is regarded as a store of value. A lot of people buy gold bullion due to the fact that they recognize the stability and simplicity of trading in gold. So then the question would be asked, how much does it cost buy bullion? How does one go about carrying out this transaction?

There are various ways to purchase gold bullion. One just needs to carry out one's research when needing to purchase gold bullion. I will certainly be keeping an eye on this issue and will probably report on my progress.

cruising along without a care
all that matters being together
flowing as one, rhythmically
thoughts interlinking.

come on, come fly with me
worry not about loved ones
what draws us together
much too strong to resist.

all alone now
tiny pangs of resistance
regret holding us back
not for too long.

in your eyes I see
the ones I have left behind
to enjoy but a few moments
of elusive dreams, illusions.

just like papa of old
a rolling stone in the making
holding on to handbags and gladrags
on top of the world.

this descent, this fall
all it is, just a walk on the flip-side.

in time, at the end of the road
when we come to our senses
memories all we have to hold on to
memories of days gone by.

bellies full yet starvation maintains tight rein
so much in sight yet so far away
proudly celebrating mediocrity
busy as bees nothing to show for it.

backs against the wall
held together in unified inadequacy
in the land of the blind the one-eyed is king
equivocating stupidity false cognoscenti.

claims floating around, still the giant in town
not anymore, now only a giant in mediocrity
innovative dreams of our fathers long laid to rest
content to remain as one under farrago of untruth.

every day the life that we live
backs bent from daily struggle
struggling against harsh cold realities
enemies of progress cloaked as heroes.

kaleidoscope of seemingly bright colors
brightness falsely super-imposed over darkness
the best days of our lives were never there
mirages, optical illusions, so to say.

soon, very soon, there will be dancing in the streets
hand clapping, back slapping, congratulations echoing
yet minds will remain heavy, hearts will still bleed
for there's nothing really to be happy about.

what happiness has ever been derived from illusions?
delusions can only lead to a fall into a pit
hard to rise from such a fall, an uphill task
so we sit back and relax content to remain where we are.

whistle fades away

Joke of the day

This joke came in from Solar. Nice one Solar, keep 'em comin'

The Image was found here. I have no idea who the artist is, but it is called the Wise Owl.

 Wise Owl

Lies that come back to haunt you.

Mom comes to visit her son Okonkwo for dinner. He lives with a female roommate Ada. During the course of the meal, his mother couldn't help but notice how pretty Okonkwo's roommate was. She had long been suspicious of a relationship between the two, and this had only made her more curious.

Over the course of the evening, while watching the two interact, she started to wonder if there was more between Okonkwo and his roommate than met the eye... Reading his mom's thoughts, Okonkwo volunteered, “I know what you must be thinking, but I assure you, Ada and I are just roommates."

About a week later, Ada came to Okonkwo saying, "Ever since your mother came to dinner, I've been unable to find the small bag of Garri. You don't suppose she took it, do you?” “Well, I doubt it, but I'll email her, just to be sure" said, Okonkwo.

So he sat down and wrote:

Dear Mother,

I'm not saying that you did take the bag of Garri from my house, and I'm not saying that you did not take it either.  But the fact remains that it has been missing ever since you were here for dinner. Do you know what became of the Garri?

Love,

Okonkwo.

Several days later, Okonkwo received an email from his Mother, which read:

My dear Son,

I'm not saying that you do sleep with Ada, and I'm not saying that you do not sleep with her. But the fact remains that if she had been sleeping on her OWN bed, she would have found the bag of Garri under her pillow by now. Do you know where she has been sleeping?

Love,

Mum.

here, take my hand, come with me to the edge
still lost in twists and turns, one way to go.

All Immigrants in Ireland must go back home

0007

The image is from www.celtict-shirtshop.com/.../products/0007.jpg

The heading says it all. At the moment in Ireland this is what pertains. Immigrants must go back home. Ordinarily, a silly suggestion such as this would not elicit much response from me, but what the heck!

Here is a letter which was written to the Independent newspapers by a member of the public:

It is titled 'Immigrants must go home'

Sunday March 01 2009

"Sir -- Some years ago in the United Kingdom a well known parliamentarian called Enoch Powell proposed a scheme for dealing with excessive immigration into the country. He would pay each immigrant £2,000 if he or she agreed to return home. At the time that was a lot of money.

I understand that some immigrants are collecting social welfare payments in this country. In addition some immigrants are collecting children's allowance here and at the same time in their own country. If immigrants agreed to return home, they should be paid four weeks' unemployment money to help them on their way. At present unemployed immigrants have little hope of re-employment here. During the boom such people enjoyed gainful employment. They should now reciprocate our kindness by returning home, thus alleviating our economic difficulties.

Bernard Kileen,

Ennis, Co Clare"

It is easy, when things are difficult,to blame immigrants for all sorts of issues, but to blame immigrants for Irish recession is taking things beyond the bounds of stupidity. It is not such a new idea anyway, I mean, Hitler used the same excuse to try to purge Germany of Jews and other immigrants, so if the Irish public and some politicians have decided to use 'immigrants' as scape goats for  bad decisions that have been made in the past, then i wouldn't be surprised.

I wonder what would happen if the USA, Australia, New Zealand and other countries where there large concentrations of Irish migrants, all got up tomorrow and said 'all Irish people have to go back home, things are so difficult here now and we can't stand you no more!'

An argument most often postulated by those who want migrants to go back home is the one of the dole. They believe that migrants have no right to be on the dole. I just feel that this is somewhat silly. A lot of the migrants receiving unemployment benefits today are people who have being working in this country for a long while, some for maybe, upwards of 5 years. They also contributed in their way to the Celtic Tiger. They paid taxes which were used to keep a lot of Irish people on the dole. So now things are bad and they have lost their jobs, they are not entitled to a little bit of money from the State?

To be honest, these are not the times to start throwing blames at immigrants or at a particular group of people. This is a time when we should all collectively rise up and work towards making the Celtic Tiger roar again. We should not let silly, inane and stupid arguments or thoughts derail us from this singular objective. Yes, the times are hard but let us not start behaving like the uncivilized.
